When you have made evil the means of survival, do not expect men to remain good. Do not expect them to stay moral and lose their lives for the purpose of becoming the fodder of the immoral. Do not expect them to produce, when production is punished and looting rewarded. Do not ask, "who is destroying the world?" you are.
When one acts on pity against justice, it is the good whom one punishes for the sake of the evil; when one saves the guilty from suffering, it is the innocent whom one forces to suffer. There is no escape from justice, nothing can be unearned and unpaid for in the universe, neither in matter nor in spiritand if the guilty do not pay, then the innocent have to pay it.
That’s exactly what i’m talking about. that’s the evil that’s seducing you. the malevolent power that is crawling through your blood tempting you onto a treacherous path that will cost you everything you love and hold dear. you have to let that anger go before it’s too late. vengeance always turns inward and it will consume you until nothing’s left but an empty hole that nothing can fill. (ambrose)
The effects which follow too constant and intense a concentration upon evil are always disastrous. Those who crusade, not for god in themselves, but against the devil in others, never succeed in making the world better, but leave it either as it was, or sometimes even perceptibly worse than it was, before the crusade began. By thinking primarily of evil we tend, however excellent our intentions, to create occasions for evil to manifest itself.
Be famous. Be a big social experiment in getting what you don't want. Find value in what we've been taught is worthless. Find good in what the world says is evil. I'm giving you my life because i want the whole world to know you. I wish the whole world would embrace what it hates. Find what you're afraid of most and go live there.
All i am really promoting in the books is the golden rule, which i hope everybody knows to be "do as you would be done by." it has one or 2 flaws, but it is a good soundbite. evil starts when you treat other people as things. there are perhaps worse crimes, but they begin when you treat other people as things.
