Yes, there are parallels. The difference is that i just look at [my son] david and think that he's absolutely perfect, whereas you look at the finished book and you think, 'oh, damn it, i should have changed that.' you're never happy. Whereas with a baby, you're happy. If you've got a perfect baby, you're just grateful.
But i dont think ive ever known such a natural at potions! Said slughorn. Instinctive, you know like his mother! Ive only ever taught a few with this kind of ability, i can tell you that, sybill why even severus and to harrys horror, slughorn threw out an arm and seemed to scoop snape out of thin air toward them.
He felt his heart pounding fiercely in his chest. How strange that in his dread of death, it pumped all the harder, valiantly keeping him alive. But it would have to stop, and soon. Its beats were numbered. How many would there be time for, as he rose and walked through the castle for the last time, out into the grounds and into the forest?
I had a dream about a motorcycle," said harry, remembering suddenly. "it was flying." uncle vernon nearly crashed into the car in front. He turned right around in his seat and yelled at harry, his face like a gigantic beet with a mustache: "motorcycles don't fly!" dudley and piers sniggered. "i know they don't," said harry. "it was only a dream.
Years ago someone wrote [about me]: 'she characterizes molly weasley as a mother who is only at home looking after the children.' i was deeply offended, because i until a year before that had also been such a mother who was at home all the time taking care of her child [...] what has lesser status and is more difficult than raising a child? And what is more important?
Okay, men, he said. And women, said chaser angelina johnson. And women, wood agreed. This is it. The big one, said fred weasley. The one weve all been waiting for, said george. We know olivers speech by heart, fred told harry, we were on the team last year. Shut up, you two, said wood. This is the best team gryffindors had in years. Were going to win. I know it. He glared at them all as if to say, or else. Right. Its time. Good luck, all of you.
Part of what makes a language 'alive' is its constant evolution. I would hate to think britain would ever emulate france, where they actually have a learned faculty whose job it is to attempt to prevent the incursion of foreign words into the language. I love editing harry with arthur levine, my american editor-the differences between 'british english' (of which there must be at least 200 versions) and 'american english' (ditto!) are a source of constant interest and amusement to me.
He [uncle vernon] held up the envelope in which mrs. Weasleys letter had come, and harry had to fight down a laugh. Every bit of it was covered in stamps except for a square inch on the front, into which mrs. Weasley had squeezed the dursleys address in minute writing. She did put enough stamps on, then, said harry, trying to sound as though mrs. Weasleys was a mistake anyone could make.
Hello, harry! She said. Er my names barny, said harry, flummoxed. Oh, have you changed that too? She asked brightly. How did you know ? Oh, just your expression, she said. Like her father, luna was wearing bright yellow robes, which she had accessorized with a large sunflower in her hair. Once you got over the brightness of it all, the general effect was quite pleasant. At least there were no radishes dangling from her ears.
You know how i think they choose people for gryffindor team?" said malfoy loudly a few minutes later, as snape awarded hufflepuff another penalty for now reason at all. "it's people they feel sorry for. See, there's potter, who's got no parents, then there's the weasleys, who've got no money - you should be on the team, longbottom, you've got no brains.
The knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive. You will never truly know yourself, or the strength of your relationships, until both have been tested by adversity. Such knowledge is a true gift, for all that it is painfully won, and it has been worth more than any qualification i ever earned.
I would be a liar if i said i don't care [about my appearance]; yes, i care. I found it very difficult, when i first became well known, to read criticism about how i look, how messy my hair was, and how generally unkempt i look. The nastiest thing ever written was written by a man, and i do remember that. I wasn't looking for it either, it was just simply in the newspaper i was reading.
How do you remember everything from different books when you are still writing the hp series? As obsessive fans will tell you, i do slip up! Several classrooms move floors mysteriously between books and these are the least serious continuity errors! Most of the fansites will point you in the direction of my mistakes. But the essentials remain consistent from book to book because the story has been plotted for a long time and it is clear in my mind.
