The american dream can no more remain static than can the american nation.... We cannot any longer take an old approach to world problems. They aren't the same problems. It isn't the same world. We must not adopt the methods of our ancestors; instead, we must emulate that pioneer quality in our ancestors that made them attempt new methods for a new world.
Unpleasant, even dangerous, qualities can be found in every nation and every individual: it is cruel to demand that the jew be an exception. in him, these qualities may even be dangerous and revolting to an unusual degree; and perhaps the young stock-exchange jew is altogether the most disgusting invention of mankind.
Every man, however hopeless his pretensions may appear, has some project by which he hopes to rise to reputation; some art by which he imagines that the attention of the world will be attracted; some quality, good or bad, which discriminates him from the common herd of mortals, and by which others may be persuaded to love, or compelled to fear him.
