Do not be afraid of spending quality time by yourself. Find meaning or dont find meaning but steal some time and give it freely and exclusively to your own self. Opt for privacy and solitude. That doesnt make you antisocial or cause you to reject the rest of the world. But you need to breathe. And you need to be.
These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world. Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of everyone of its members. Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity. Self-reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs.
In certain areas of my life, i actively seek out solitude. especially for someone in my line of work, solitude is, more or less, an inevitable circumstance. sometimes, however, this sense of isolation, like acid spilling out of a bottle, can unconsciously eat away at a person's heart and dissolve it. you could see it, too, as a kind of double-edged sword. it protects me, but at the same time steadily cuts away at me from the inside.
Culture is the suggestion, from certain best thoughts, that a man has a range of affinities through which he can modulate the violence of any master-tones that have a droning preponderance in his scale, and succor him against himself. Culture redresses this imbalance, puts him among equals and superiors, revives the delicious sense of sympathy, and warns him of the dangers of solitude and repulsion.
